Why You Should Attend RailNation: Tucson
August 30, 2024
By Lenny Zaleski / Rail Passengers Intern
People are demanding more passenger rail across America. We’re going to bring them together and build the platform to enrich rail communities and inspire more advocates. With the support of our local partner, All Aboard Arizona, we are excited to bring rail advocates to a state that is pushing for more passenger rail.
If you haven’t heard, we are hosting RailNation: Tucson from November 1st to 3rd in Tucson, Arizona. It’ll be the advocacy event for rail enthusiasts across the U.S. to come together and learn, network, and grow.
Last year, we hosted RailNation: Meridian in Meridian, Mississippi. We had hundreds of attendees arrive at the newly restored multimodal transportation station. While in Meridian, we were joined by experts in the field, Amtrak senior officials, the Southern Rail Commission, regional Mayors, and keynote speaker Federal Railroad Administrator Amit Bose.
But, why should you attend RailNation: Tucson?
You get to meet, network, and learn from firsthand those who are leading the charge for passenger rail in the U.S. You will hear from:
- Federal Railroad Administration
- Amtrak
- All Aboard Arizona
- University of Arizona
- Arizona Department of Transportation
- a number of local Mayors and Elected Officials
And of course, us.
Whether you want to learn about the latest ridership stats, new train cars, or corridor IDs, you’ll find the people and knowledge with us at RailNation: Tucson.
Next, you’ll be able to grow your advocacy skills at RailNation. You’ll be able to attend sessions like Advocacy 101, hosted by our very own Sean Jeans-Gail, Vice President of Policy. Sessions like this will review advocacy from a policy level to the grassroots.
Speaking of workshops, we have a variety of workshops and sessions available for a variety of interests. Our workshops will feature a wide range of speakers from federal to city officials, advocates, and our staff. You can click here to see the agenda preview and invited speakers.
And finally, no matter your stake or interest in passenger rail, there will be something here for you. Arizonans will see the prime position of their state to be a part of the progress we’re making in passenger rail across the nation. Policy experts will see passenger rail at a birds-eye view with all the various components involved. Local and regional advocates will get to meet other organizations and see what major news is coming up. And enthusiasts get the latest developments in rail and a room full of like-minded people who all love passenger rail in our country.
We’re continuing to build the platform for rail advocacy in the southwest and throughout the nation, and we hope you’ll join us there.
You can register for RailNation: Tucson virtually or in person by clicking here.
"It is an honor to be recognized by the Rail Passengers Association for my efforts to strengthen and expand America’s passenger rail. Golden spikes were once used by railroads to mark the completion of important rail projects, so I am truly grateful to receive the Golden Spike Award as a way to mark the end of a career that I’ve spent fighting to invest in our country’s rail system. As Chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, it has been my priority to bolster funding for Amtrak, increase and expand routes, look to the future by supporting high-speed projects, and improve safety, culminating in $66 billion in new funding in the Bipartisan infrastructure Law."
Representative Peter DeFazio (OR-04)
March 30, 2022, on receiving the Association's Golden Spike Award for his years of dedication and commitment to passenger rail.
